An Honest Woodcutter Completing Story

Once upon a time, there lived a woodcutter. He was very poor but also very honest. He lived near the woods.
An Honest Woodcutter
He used to cut trees and bear his family's expenses by selling wood in nearby marketplaces. He was living happily as he never cheated. He was satisfied with what he had.

One day, he went to work. He was cutting a tree by the riverside. Due to working hard, his iron axe became very old. The handle was slipping out of his hands. Suddenly,  his axe fell into the river after one strong hit on the tree.

The water current was very strong. His axe was the only tool he had to earn money. His family depended on it. He did not even have the money to buy a new axe. He started crying desperately and prayed to God to give him his axe back.

Beyond his expectations, a miracle happened. A mermaid angel emerged from the river and said, "What happened? Why are you crying?" He was shocked but also in grief. He replied, "I am a woodcutter. I lost my axe in the river today.

Without it, I can not earn money to feed my children". The mermaid angel felt bad for him. But she wanted to test him. So she said, "I might have seen your axe. Wait for me here". Then she dived into the water and after some time came up with a shining silver axe in her hands. She asked him if it was his. He promptly denied it.

She was shocked but dived again, bought a solid gold axe, and said, "This axe must be yours". The woodcutter replied, "You are mistaken. Mine was a very shabby one. It was an old iron axe. If you can return my real axe I will be very grateful". Hearing this, the mermaid was very impressed and touched by the honesty of the woodcutter.

She said, "I have tested many men before but found none like you. You are very honest and even the temptation of solid gold could not shake your morality". She then gave him back his own axe and rewarded his honesty with the silver and gold axe.

The woodcutter could not believe it in his own eyes. He thanked the angel from the bottom of his heart. Then he went back home and sold the silver and gold axe to start a new business. With hardship and honesty, he never had to look back to poverty ever again.
